A Thanksgiving Message from Rev. Dr. Giovanni Arroyo

Today, I would like to share a moment of deep gratitude for your unwavering support, commitment, and dedication to the mission of the General Commission on Religion and Race (GCORR).

Looking back, we can surely celebrate the milestones that we have reached in advancing our shared journey toward a more just and inclusive church this past year.

There was the adoption of Article V: Racial Justice at the 2020/2024 General Conference, the development of anti-racism studies such as the one based on Our Hearts Were Strangely Lukewarm: The American Methodist Church and the Struggle with White Supremacy, and the training of over 300 clergy and church leaders through our self-directed online course Implicit Bias: What We Don’t Think We Think - just to name a few.

Now, looking ahead, we can do our part to bring to life our vision for more authentic community and interculturally competent leadership.

Our goal for Giving Tuesday (December 3, 2024) is $7,500 which will enable us to continue to champion diversity, equity, and inclusion within The United Methodist Church through experiences and resources in development for 2025 such as:

  • A Civil Rights Pilgrimage offering immersive learning on racial justice

  • “God’s Wonderful People” Curriculum for children and adults navigating challenging racial issues with love and understanding

  • New Asynchronous Courses addressing topics like anti-ableism, intersectionality, and inclusive practices

  • The Facing the Future 2025 Conference equipping pastors and lay leaders for cross-racial and cross-cultural ministries

  • Training for Conference Commissions on Religion and Race (CCORR) across the world

Will you join us in this endeavor? Click here to donate now and help us continue being a prophetic voice for equity and justice, shaping the future of our church.

May your Thanksgiving be filled with joy, reflection, and a renewed commitment to building a beloved community.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Rev. Dr. Giovanni Arroyo
