GCORR Mourns the Loss of Board Member Vince Gonzales

The General Commission on Religion and Race (GCORR) of The United Methodist Church mourns the passing of Vince Gonzales, a dedicated board member since 2012. Vince passed away on July 20, 2024. His commitment to justice and equity has left a lasting impact in our community and the work of GCORR.  

Vince Gonzales was a Mitigation Specialist practicing in Weatherford, Texas, with over 25 years of experience. Vince was actively involved in over 240 cases, accepting appointments from State District Courts, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, and Federal District Courts. He was a member of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and maintained a private practice in Mitigation issues since June 1988. Vince's vast experience and unwavering dedication to justice profoundly impacted many lives.

His advocacy for marginalized communities ensured that GCORR lived up to our commitment to empowerment and self-determination. Vince's voice challenged us and deepened our awareness, guiding our board and staff to create spaces of empowerment and self-determination," said Rev. Dr. Giovanni Arroyo, General Secretary of GCORR. 

A memorial service for Vince Gonzales will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at noon at The Woods United Methodist Church, located at 1350 Bardin Road, Grand Prairie, Texas 75052. The service will be a time to honor and celebrate Vince's life and legacy. The service will be live streamed on Woods UMC Facebook page at facebook.com/TheWoodsUMC

GCORR extends our deepest condolences to Vince's family, friends, and all who were touched by his life and work. He will be deeply missed, and his legacy will continue to inspire our commitment to justice and equity.
