GCORR Partners with the Philippines
GCORR has partnered with the Philippines central conference over the past decade. Most recently, in 2019, representatives from across the Philippines reconvened at Union Theological Seminary in Manilla to form a Steering Committee for the Filipino collaboration with GCORR. They determined the first phase of their work would be guided by three work teams, whose work is underway. A Resource Team is reviewing and determining which GCORR resources are adaptable as well as identify other readily accessible resources in the Philippines. A Needs Assessment Team is exploring with Episcopal leaders and District superintendents the current challenges being faced regarding culture, ethnicity, tribe, and equity in the local church and the district levels. The Conference Commissions on Religion and Race (CCORR) Team is working to contextualize the GCORR Ministry model in Tagalog and explore different models for the developing of CCORRs throughout the 25 annual conferences. So far, five annual conferences in the Davao Episcopal Area and four annual conferences in the Manilla Episcopal Area have created CCORRs, and the CCORR team is optimistic that all annual conferences across the Philippines will also create their CCORRs.
During the time of COVID, the Steering Committee, Resource Team, Needs Assessment Team, and CCORR Team have continued their ministries with the support of GCORR via online platforms.
